The meet was at Colby which was kind of a bummer for me because I just don't really enjoy running on that track. The good thing was that it was a night meet, which is better for us because we practice at night.
My events were: HJ (decided last minute), 400m, and two mile.
I had nothing to do for the beginning of the meet so I just randomly added on the high jump. A couple girls from Lawrence do it so it was pretty fun. I used to high jump and sprint/hurdle in middle school. I ended up clearing 4-4 which is semi-comical, but I got third which made me happy. I have terrible form in jumping, but it's okay!
There were only about 5 girls in the senior 400, and I ended up being in a heat with two other girls - one I didn't know, and one the other was my friend from Lawrence who won the HJ. We were getting really nervous because we thought that it would be between us for the win, and we had no idea how to pace it. I wasn't sure if my legs were up for that kind of speed. I was in lane 2, and got into first at about 100m into the race. I ended up winning in 65.42 which was my goal, and qualifies me for states (I will not be running it at states).
After the 400m my butt really, really hurt. That happens when I run the 400.. my butt just kills! I warmed up for the two mile and did some drills to try and stretch my butt. I was entered into the race without a time for some reason, and so the first six girls started on the line and I was number 9, so I started in the second row. That made for a slow and difficult start for me. I had to maneuver my way through people and run in the 2nd lane for quite a bit of the race either trying to get around people or hanging on someone's shoulder. I ended up in 2nd behind Meaghan Collier from Messalonskee. She ran 12:29 and I ran 12:33. I was ready to go to bed after that.
Next meet is at Bowdoin with some really solid competition so there should be some pretty quick times coming out of there. Good luck everyone.
